They had protected me exactly as they had been paid to do. The only thing I could take away from the experience was losing out on the opportunity to get to know Flex inside and out.

The phantom presence of his shaft could still be felt in my fist.

"I apologize for being blunt, but what exactly you were doing before the attack? I know this might seem like an invasion of your privacy, but it can't be helped. Rest assured whatever you say isn't going to get back to Detective Coleman. I have taken it upon myself to be the liaison," Capt. Jacobs said with a hand gently touching my knee.

We both had political visions and ran in the same circle of friends from time to time. He looked out for me but never interfered in my business. It was a mutually beneficial arrangement born from necessity.

"I was having a meeting with my head of security. You can see how the door came off the hinges. It takes a lot of force for that to happen. He must've been hyped up on that new drug I've heard about going around. This is one of the things I'm fighting against in my campaign. The war on drugs is a battle we will win with diligence and law enforcement." I stated a revised version of my campaign slogan.

"We are not on the campaign trail at the moment. I'm just trying to get a bigger picture of what happened. Nobody seems to know how he got into the building without being seen. We've gone over the entire place. There is no forced entry. There's no sign of him. We'll have a police presence outside the building," Capt. Jacobs informed me without first consulting me.

It was a pet peeve of mine. The one thing I didn't need was police officers looking over my shoulder.

"I have my own personal security. One is in the hospital but recovering nicely. Another one was questioned by Detective Coleman. He's reviewing the video as we speak. Anything we find will be turned over to the authorities posthaste," I advised still a little shaken, with my hands pressed against my legs.

"I don't want to hear any arguments. We might not have the necessary manpower, but I can pull one squad car. Let me do this for you. We don't have to like each other to work together. The public needs to know this was an isolated incident," Capt. Jacobs stated.

"I'm sure it was just somebody looking for his next fix. We have to do something about that drug. I'm getting reports of standing room only in the emergency rooms around the city. It's only in Los Angeles, but it could easily spread when word gets out about how strong it is and what kind of effect it has on the human body," I said with my eyes staring into cold and calculating pupils.

"Did you get a look at your attacker? Has there been any death threats? Can you think of anybody that holds a grudge against you?" Capt.
